LABRADOR LOOKING UP SCULPTURE

“George the labrador was a gorgeous old boy who sadly passed away a few weeks before I completed the commission. He is now memorialised in foundry bronze in his home, and will likely outlast us all.
I enjoyed doing George very much as his owner had taken a large number of pictures of him throughout his life. Sifting through them I was able to enjoy his love of his family, and when I sculpted him I tried to capture George in his prime.”

This bronze labrador statue bears Tanya’s signature and unique edition number. Your casting of the Labrador Looking Up sculpture will be personally approved and will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

10% of the proceeds from this bronze dog sculpture support ‘The Dogs Trust’ animal charity.

Which Material to Choose

Bronze Resin – bronze metal powder is mixed with a resin to create the appearance of foundry bronze metal, but is more affordable and lightweight.

Foundry Bronze  – refers to the poured molten metal that is cast solid or hollow, depending on size, at a bronze foundry (using the traditional lost wax process). It is more robust and will appreciate in value.

This patient lifesized labrador statue is sculpted by the artist Tanya Russell, who is the UK’s pre-eminent dog sculptor. Tanya has a passion for improving the welfare of the animals she sculpts and 10% of all proceeds from the Labrador Looking Up statue will go to the ‘Dogs Trust’, a charity that provides sanctuary and rehoming services for dogs in the UK and also lobbies for welfare policy changes all over the world.

The Labrador Looking Up is a limited edition sculpture, and your piece will be a superb recreation of the original clay labrador sculpture, taken from a mould. Your bronze dog sculpture can be cast in Bronze Resin or Foundry Bronze metal depending on which material you prefer.

How The Sculpture Was Made

I visited George and took lots of photographs of him in a variety of poses. I watched his expressions and mannerisms, and heard about the way he behaved at home with his family. After that, with his owners, I decided which pose would suit him best, then proceeded to model Toby in clay.

Once I’d sculpted Toby a rubber mould was taken, with ‘keys’ placed in the rubber to ensure proper positioning. Then a shell of fibreglass was applied, to protect the mould and support it during the casting process.
