Which material to choose?
Bronze Resin – bronze metal powder is mixed with a resin to create the appearance of foundry bronze metal, but is more affordable and lightweight.
Foundry Bronze – refers to the poured molten metal that is cast solid or hollow, depending on size, at a bronze foundry (using the traditional lost wax process). It is more robust and will appreciate in value.

The beautiful bronze Hedgehog sculpture is a casting of an original sculpture. It is hand cast by a British foundry or resin caster and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. This casting is a perfect recreation of the original sculpture and bears the artist’s signature and its own unique edition number.

The inspiration behind the sculpture
The Hedgehog sculpture was commissioned to sit on a wall of a London home by a lady who’s keen to promote awareness and support for these beautiful animals.
Hedgehogs are able to survive and thrive in people’s back gardens, but only if we are sensitive to their needs. Doing a few simple things can make a big difference for these little creatures. Things like creating holes through boundary fences, to allow hedgehogs the ability to move through and forage in several adjoining green spaces. Or leaving wild patches, where we let insect and beetle friendly ‘weeds’ and plants thrive, and don’t tidy up all the old leaves and bits of rotting wood. You can leave dishes of water out for them in the hot weather, or provide hedgehog friendly meals, like a dish of meaty cat or dog food. You can even go so far as to give provide a shelter in a private spot, to allow hedgehogs passing through to rest undisturbed or even to hibernate through the winter. Any of these things can really encourage our gardens to become wonderful homes for hedgehogs. Find information online at websites like the British Hedgehog Preservation Society.
How it was made
When I model animals I try where possible to find examples from life. I also use many photos – often hundreds – showing the animal (and other animals of the breed or species). This helps me sculpt their anatomical features. I study the way that hair, fur or skin lies over their muscles or alters their shape, and their different poses and attitudes.
The Hedgehog sculpture was modelled in wax, over a steel and aluminium armature for support. After the Hedgehog statue was finished a rubber mould was taken, with ‘keys’ placed in the rubber to ensure proper positioning. Then a shell of fibreglass was applied, to protect the mould and support it during the casting process.
This piece is new and we don’t have written testimonial for it yet.
