SITTING JINDO SCULPTURE

“Jindo lived in the United States and a statue of him was commissioned to contain his ashes. The family shared many happy memories of Jindo’s time with them, and wanted him captured very exactly, with his little marks and features as close to their precious boy as I could manage. This included a characterful ear sloop on one ear, which will remain unique to their sculpture of him. The original commission piece in Foundry Bronze metal had a door in the side which allowed a quantity of ashes to be placed inside this memorial jindo statue.”

This bronze jindo statue bears Tanya’s signature and unique edition number. Your casting of the Sitting Jindo sculpture will be personally approved and will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and a complimentary cleaning kit.

10% of the proceeds from this bronze dog sculpture support ‘The Dogs Trust’ animal charity.

Which Material to Choose

Bronze Resin – bronze metal powder is mixed with a resin to create the appearance of foundry bronze metal, but is more affordable and lightweight.

Foundry Bronze  – refers to the poured molten metal that is cast solid or hollow, depending on size, at a bronze foundry (using the traditional lost wax process). It is more robust and will appreciate in value.

This handsome lifesized jindo statue is sculpted by the artist Tanya Russell, who is the UK’s pre-eminent dog sculptor. Tanya has a passion for improving the welfare of the animals she sculpts and 10% of all proceeds from the Sitting Jindo statue will go to the ‘Dogs Trust’, a charity that provides sanctuary and rehoming services for dogs in the UK and also lobbies for welfare policy changes all over the world.

The Sitting Jindo is a limited edition sculpture, and your piece will be an excellent recreation of the original clay bassett hound sculpture, taken from a mould. Your bronze dog sculpture can be cast in Bronze Resin or Foundry Bronze metal depending on which material you prefer.

How The Sculpture Was Made

Unfortunately, Jindo had passed away prior to his commissioning, but I was able to work from lots of photos of him in a variety of poses. I looked at them carefully to identify his expressions and shape, and heard about the way he behaved at home with her family. After that, with his owners, I decided which pose would suit him best, then proceeded to model Jindo in clay.

Once I’d sculpted Jindo a rubber mould was taken, with ‘keys’ placed in the rubber to ensure proper positioning. Then a shell of fibreglass was applied, to protect the mould and support it during the casting process.
