BABY PARROT SCULPTURE
“I have always been intrigued by parrots, they are legendary for their intelligence and when you see them demonstrating how clever they are it really is incredible. I also love their larger than life characters, they can be very sweet natured but also can rule a whole household!
In the wild parrots form wonderful colourful communities and screech and play and groom themselves and each other. Though I love parrots I also became very aware of how awfully they are being exploited and have been for so many years, along of course with so many other species of wildlife. This year alone, in 42 days and 16 countries alone, researchers found 33,006 live wild animals and parts for sale illegally.
Parrots chicks are often taken from their nests while really tiny to be sold as pets far away. This piece was also entitled ‘blood trade’ and aimed to show both the beautiful side and the desperately vulnerable side of these gorgeous baby parrot chicks.”

This cute Baby Parrot statue is sculpted by artist Tanya Russell, who is well known for her life-like wildlife and animal sculptures. Tanya has a passion for improving the welfare of the animals she sculpts and 10% of all proceeds from the Baby Parrot statue will go to the ‘David Shepherd Wildlife Trust’, a charity that fights for greater legal protection of endangered species.
The Baby Parrot is an open edition sculpture, and your piece will be a superb recreation of the original bronze sculpture from a mould.

How The Sculpture Was Made
When I model animals I try where possible to find examples from life. I also use many photos – often hundreds – showing the animal (and other animals of the breed or species). This helps me sculpt their anatomical features. I study the way that hair, fur or skin lies over their muscles or alters their shape, and their different poses and attitudes.
The Baby Parrot sculpture was modelled in wax, over a steel and aluminium armature for support. After the Baby Parrot statue was finished a rubber mould was taken, with ‘keys’ placed in the rubber to ensure proper positioning. Then a shell of fibreglass was applied, to protect the mould and support it during the casting process.

Client Testimonials
“Beautiful sculpture that captures the essence of the subject. So in love with this piece. The bronze resin was heavier and nicer feeling than I expected. Looking forward to enjoying this art for years to come!”
