‘ON THE WATER’ CHILDREN PADDLEBOARDING WITH THEIR DOG
The ‘On The Water’ Children Paddleboarding with their Dog sculpture was a private commission for a client in the USA. The brief was to create something similar in style to the small Stargazers ring, and I created a few concepts and we selected between the best two. The dog is Brooklyn, a Portuguese Water Dog, and the sculpture draws on themes from Egyptian ancient art, my previous animal relationship artwork, and the photos of Brooklyn on the water on the family’s paddleboard!
This bronze paddleboard statue bears Tanya’s signature and unique edition number. Your casting of the ‘On The Water’ Children Paddleboardin with their Dog sculpture will be personally approved and will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
10% of the proceeds from this bronze dog sculpture support ‘The Dogs Trust’ animal charity.

This mantlepiece-sized animal relationship statue is sculpted by the artist Tanya Russell, who is well known for her life-like animal sculptures. Tanya has a passion for improving the welfare of the animals she sculpts and 10% of all proceeds from the ‘On The Water’ Children Paddleboarding with their Dog statue will go to ‘Dogs Trust’, a charity that provides sanctuary and rehoming services for dogs in the UK and also lobbies for welfare policy changes all over the world.
The ‘On the Water’ Children Paddleboarding with their Dog statue is a limited edition sculpture, and your piece will be a superb recreation of the original wax horse sculpture, taken from a mould. Your sculpture will be cast in authentic Foundry Bronze metal.
How The Sculpture Was Made
When I model animals and people I try where possible to find examples from life. I also use many photos – often hundreds – showing the animal (and other animals of the breed or species). This helps me sculpt their anatomical features. I study the way that hair, fur or skin lies over their muscles or alters their shape, and their different poses and attitudes.
The ‘On the Water’ sculpture was modelled in wax, over a steel and aluminium armature for support. After the paddleboard statue was finished a rubber mould was taken, with ‘keys’ placed in the rubber to ensure proper positioning. Then a shell of fibreglass was applied, to protect the mould and support it during the casting process.
