WALKING CAT SCULPTURE
The Walking Cat sculpture was commissioned of Fitzwilliam, and joins his companion Jack, my standing cat sculpture and also Dan Dan, my Sitting Cat sculpture. While I didn’t meet Fitzwilliam, I worked to represent his gentle presence in a striking and engaged pose. In this case, I did not get his sizing right as the client’s memory of him is of a gentle giant, whose scale wasn’t quite big enough in the finished sculpture. I am happy with the character and modelling of Fitzwilliam, but the commission taught me further lessons about sizing in sculpting from photos, and the care that must be taken to better indicate size in the photos and videos I send to a client who isn’t attending to sign off the finished clay model in person.
This bronze cat statue bears Tanya’s signature and unique edition number. Your casting of the Walking Cat sculpture will be personally approved and will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

Sculpture Description, Bases & Fixings
Suitable for outdoor display as a cat garden ornament or cat memorial statue.
This statue is presented with threaded rods, or if requested, security rings, which will allow the sculpture to be secured to hard ground, or padlocked to a buried security chain.
This prowling lifesized cat statue is sculpted by the artist Tanya Russell, who is well known for her life-like animal sculptures. Tanya has a passion for improving the welfare of the animals she sculpts and 10% of all proceeds from the Walking Cat statue will go to ‘All Creatures Great and Small’, a charity that provides sanctuary and rehoming services for domestic animals rescued in England and Wales.
The Walking Cat is a limited edition sculpture, and your piece will be a superb recreation of the original clay cat sculpture, taken from a mould. Your bronze cat sculpture can be cast in Bronze Resin or Foundry Bronze metal depending on which material you prefer.
How The Sculpture Was Made
When I model animals I try where possible to find examples from life. I also use many photos – often hundreds – showing the animal (and other animals of the breed or species). This helps me sculpt their anatomical features. I study the way that hair, fur or skin lies over their muscles or alters their shape, and their different poses and attitudes.
The Walking Cat sculpture was modelled in wax, over a steel and aluminium armature for support. After the Walking Cat statue was finished a rubber mould was taken, with ‘keys’ placed in the rubber to ensure proper positioning. Then a shell of fibreglass was applied, to protect the mould and support it during the casting process.
Delivery & Returns
Delivery costs are calculated once you add a sculpture to your bag. Contact us for other delivery options like collection or express delivery for bulky sculptures.
International delivery is available.
If you are an international buyer, you may need to pay local customs duties or taxes when importing a sculpture into your country. This most often applies to more valuable sculptures. Your local customs and taxes are not prepaid for you. If you contact us we can try to estimate them for you.
Sculpture that is broken in transit to you may be returned, and a replacement sculpture will be sent to you, at no further cost. If no replacement is available, we will cast a new one for you, or offer you a refund.
“He looks very handsome though – and I don’t really know how to say this – unfortunately his huge size isn’t really showing when put alongside his little brother”…”It is a lovely sculpture and I do appreciate the huge discount. It’s just that he’s come out smaller than DanDan.”
A note from the artist: Sometimes I don’t get a commission completely right – and this is most often a question of volume, particularly with deceased pets. I am always looking for ways to improve the way I do commissions, and I will always look for ways to resolve a client’s issues as best as I can.
