NOVA SCOTIA DUCK TOLLING RETRIEVER

“The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is a commission of Blaze, who’d been the no.1 performance Toller in the US for the last four years before his sculpting. With a gorgeous, expressive face, and a lithe and agile frame, it was a pleasure trying to capture Blaze in wax in one of the poses from his many dog agility photos. Blaze was commissioned in Foundry Bronze metal, and his original bronze was coloured with white markings to mirror his true colouring.”

This bronze Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever statue bears Tanya’s signature and unique edition number. Your casting of the Toller sculpture will be personally approved and will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

10% of the proceeds from this bronze dog sculpture support ‘The Dogs Trust’ animal charity.

Which Material to Choose

Bronze Resin – bronze metal powder is mixed with a resin to create the appearance of foundry bronze metal, but is more affordable and lightweight.

Foundry Bronze  – refers to the poured molten metal that is cast solid or hollow, depending on size, at a bronze foundry (using the traditional lost wax process). It is more robust and will appreciate in value.

This windowsill-sized Toller statue is sculpted by the artist Tanya Russell, who is the UK’s pre-eminent dog sculptor. Tanya has a passion for improving the welfare of the animals she sculpts and 10% of all proceeds from the NSDTR statue will go to the ‘Dogs Trust’, a charity that provides sanctuary and rehoming services for dogs in the UK and also lobbies for welfare policy changes all over the world.

The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is a limited edition sculpture, and your piece will be a superb recreation of the original wax NSDTR sculpture, taken from a mould. Your bronze dog sculpture can be cast in Bronze Resin or Foundry Bronze metal depending on which material you prefer.

How The Sculpture Was Made

As Blaze was in the USA, I sculpted him using lots of photographs of him in a variety of poses. I looked for his expressions and mannerisms, and heard about the way he behaved at home with his family. After that, with his owners, I decided which pose would suit him best, then proceeded to model Blaze in wax.

Once I’d sculpted Blaze a rubber mould was taken, with ‘keys’ placed in the rubber to ensure proper positioning. Then a shell of fibreglass was applied, to protect the mould and support it during the casting process.
