PLAYING BABY ELEPHANT SCULPTURE

I modelled this Playing Baby Elephant sculpture to try to emphasise the joy that having elephants in our world represents. The species is becoming critically endangered. I believe art can help people think about why these precious animals should be protected.

I’d thought originally to sculpt an elephant in mortal pain, its tusks harvested by poachers. But the images of their suffering are only one side of loving elephants. We need reminders of why the lives of the animals are important. I wanted to represent their joy in life and I felt that the Playing Baby Elephant sculpture could be a really strong expression of that.

This bronze Playing Baby Elephant statue bears Tanya’s signature and unique edition number. Your casting of the elephant sculpture will be personally approved and will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

10% of the proceeds from this bronze wildlife sculpture support the David Shepherd Wildlife Trust animal charity.

Which Material to Choose

Bronze Resin – bronze metal powder is mixed with a resin to create the appearance of foundry bronze metal, but is more affordable and lightweight.

Foundry Bronze  – refers to the poured molten metal that is cast solid or hollow, depending on size, at a bronze foundry (using the traditional lost wax process). It is more robust and will appreciate in value.

Sculpture Description, Bases & Fixings

This cute Playing Baby Elephant statue is sculpted by artist Tanya Russell, who is well known for her life-like wildlife and animal sculptures. Tanya has a passion for improving the welfare of the animals she sculpts and 10% of all proceeds from the Elephant statue will go to the ‘David Shepherd Wildlife Trust’, a charity that fights for greater legal protection of endangered species.

The Playing Baby Elephant is an open edition sculpture, and your piece will be a superb recreation of the original bronze sculpture from a mould.

If you would like this statue to be mounted on a stone or wooden base, please contact me for a quote.

How The Sculpture Was Made

The Baby Elephant sculpture was modelled in wax, over a steel and aluminium armature for support. After the statue was finished a rubber mould was taken, with ‘keys’ placed in the rubber to ensure proper positioning. Then a shell of fibreglass was applied, to protect the mould and support it during the casting process.
