WELSH MERMAID SCULPTURE

“The Welsh Mermaid is one of a pair of mermaid statues, its partner being with the Oregon Mermaid. They are each sculpted in a different style, but are both inspired by the mermaids in the Allerton Gardens in Hawaii. While the Oregon Mermaid will be part of Beth’s memorial garden in Oregon, USA, the Welsh Mermaid will be installed here in Wales in a peaceful place in our garden. The Allerton Garden mermaids stand at either end of a long, wavy-like water feature – and I particularly enjoy the symmetry of my two mermaid statues standing either side of the Atlantic, one at Beth’s home and one in the Welsh hills where her memorial bronzes were made.”

This bronze mermaid with urn statue bears Tanya’s signature and unique edition number. Your casting of the Welsh Mermaid sculpture will be personally approved and will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

10% of the proceeds from this bronze sculpture support the 'The Dogs Trust', 'David Shepherd Wildlife Trust' and ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ charities.

Which Material to Choose

Bronze Resin – bronze metal powder is mixed with a resin to create the appearance of foundry bronze metal, but is more affordable and lightweight.

Foundry Bronze  – refers to the poured molten metal that is cast solid or hollow, depending on size, at a bronze foundry (using the traditional lost wax process). It is more robust and will appreciate in value.

How The Sculpture Was Made

After the Welsh Mermaid with Urn statue was finished a rubber mould was taken, with ‘keys’ placed in the rubber to ensure proper positioning. Then a shell of fibreglass was applied, to protect the mould and support it during the casting process. Learn more about the casting process…
