STANDING BORDER TERRIER SCULPTURE

“I’d wanted to do a Border Terrier sculpture for a long time, and was lucky to be commissioned to sculpt Archie, who is very representative of the breed. His stance and presence is naturally very sculptural and he posed for me beautifully.
While I was with him, Archie followed the gardener around between the buildings, and I heard that Archie liked to sit with him in the greenhouse. Archie is also best friends with the cat.”

This bronze border terrier statue bears Tanya’s signature and unique edition number. Your casting of the Standing Border Terrier sculpture will be personally approved and will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

10% of the proceeds from this bronze dog sculpture support The Dogs Trust animal charity.

Which Material to Choose

Bronze Resin – bronze metal powder is mixed with a resin to create the appearance of foundry bronze metal, but is more affordable and lightweight.

Foundry Bronze  – refers to the poured molten metal that is cast solid or hollow, depending on size, at a bronze foundry (using the traditional lost wax process). It is more robust and will appreciate in value.

Suitable for outdoor display as a border terrier garden ornament or border terrier memorial statue.

This statue is provided with screw-in threaded rods for added stability in soft ground, which also allow you to bolt it onto, or glue it into, hard surfaces. This alert lifesized border terrier statue is sculpted by the artist Tanya Russell, who is the UK’s pre-eminent dog sculptor. Tanya has a passion for improving the welfare of the animals she sculpts and 10% of all proceeds from the Standing Border Terrier statue will go to the ‘Dogs Trust’, a charity that provides sanctuary and rehoming services for dogs in the UK and also lobbies for welfare policy changes all over the world.

The Standing Border Terrier is a limited edition sculpture, and your piece will be a superb recreation of the original clay border terrier sculpture, taken from a mould. Your bronze dog sculpture can be cast in Bronze Resin or Foundry Bronze metal depending on which material you prefer.

How The Sculpture Was Made

After taking Archie’s measurements I took lots of photographs of him in a variety of poses, watching his expressions and mannerisms, and hearing about the way he behaved at home with his family. After that, with his owners, I decided which pose would suit Archie best, then proceeded to model him in clay.

Once I’d sculpted Archie a rubber mould was taken, with ‘keys’ placed in the rubber to ensure proper positioning. Then a shell of fibreglass was applied, to protect the mould and support it during the casting process.

“Archie No 2 arrived just now, we love it so much and Archie no 1 had a sniff to see what all the fuss was about, then later when we decided where he was going to stand had another sniff to make sure there was not another intruder into his life.”

Karen, (Commissioner)

“…my wife is overjoyed with the sculpture. It’s currently being “inspected” by a curious border terrier!”
